::This church feeds the homeless and poor every Sunday, except the month of July, from 12:30 until 3-ish. Very lovely people. The first Sunday of the month a nurse comes to check on us and help with minor issues.

::First Congregational Church Of Long Beach was built at the corner of Cedar and Third but it sits at the corner of Art and Justice. This is a proudly progressive, unabashedly liberal congregation that is committed to be welcoming to people who are at various places on their spiritual journey. God's radical welcome is manifest in this congregation through its many acts of individual congregants coming together for purposes of social justice. This may be through working at the homeless drop in center that feeds Long Beach homeless and food insecure every Sunday. This may be from volunteering at the after school program that helps kids in the neighborhood. First Church also has a rich tradition of bringing art to Downtown Long Beach. The world premiere of October Mourning, a retelling of the Matthew Shepard story in poetry and original music was at First Church in May of 2014. Every year First Church's Board of Cultural Arts sponsors noon time concerts on the church organ for Downtown workers. Twice a year the church puts on Succulent Planting Workshops to help local homeowners change their lawns into sustainable gardens. It is progressive theology mixed with traditional services in a caring and welcoming community. If that is what you seek, then you are home.
