::My fiancé and I worked with Alexei (one of Fiat Lux’s owners) for a custom engagement ring and, unfortunately, I cannot recommend that you do the same. The major issues were: 1) The pricing methodology was unclear. We received different quotes from different employees. This made us feel like they were just trying to figure out how much we were willing to pay, rather than using a rational pricing methodology. 2) Alexei promised and missed multiple delivery dates for our custom ring. He did not proactively contact us to let us know about the delays. Instead he waited for us to check-in the day before our scheduled pick-up before giving us the bad news. We would have driven 1.5 hours round-trip to SF to pick up the ring when it wasn’t yet ready had we not double-checked beforehand. 3) Alexei’s communication style was passive aggressive. When we arrived at the shop to pick up the ring and pay the remaining balance, I asked for a discount given that the ring was approximately one month late. Alexei responded curtly, saying that a discount was not possible given that the cost of the materials had not changed. I responded by saying that I wasn’t asking for a discount because of the cost of the materials, but rather because he had over-promised, under-delivered, and communicated poorly throughout. He begrudgingly offered a 10% discount on the remaining balance, adding in a rude comment along the lines of “I knew you were going to ask for this”. The vibe was rather tense and uncomfortable. 4) The icing on the cake was that Alexei had improperly sized the ring and then tried to charge us a $40 resize fee. Needless, to say, we chose a different shop to resize the ring. Clearly others have had good experiences given the number of positive reviews, so not sure why our experience sucked. We are not high maintenance people. If you do come here, buy off the shelf and avoid custom work. Only reason we are giving two stars instead of one is that the ring is gorgeous.
