  An excellent, brightly lit, and now (post expansion) spacious coffee shop. The main floor is mostly for conversations--laptops are actually banned from several seating areas--but for those who want caffeine and a thirdspace, the upper mezzanine is basically a cat perch for laptop tapping. Anyway, onto coffee and atmosphere. Coffe is quite good, never had a burnt espresso here, and the pastries are rather nice as well. There's a selection of savory lunch-type things but I have not been here at lunch (despite many visits) so I can't speak to them. Service tends to be good to excellent; I've never experienced rudeness or sloth here, although when they get busy there can be a coffee backlog for espresso-based drinks. Atmosphere is airy but not cold, it always seems a bit busy and a bit buzzy as a result, and I find that energy can be enlivening. In a world where coffee shops are more common than fast food outlets, Farley's stands out as a really well balanced, special place.

  My favorite cafe in Oakland. Great coffee and food and the atmosphere is cozy. Upstairs has a section devoted to the laptop folks. So smart.

  F-east is beautiful, with great staff, all the trendy drinks, a lunch menu, glossy magazines and now is bigger and better. I remember going in to the Potrero Farley's and getting scolded by the barrista for requesting low-fat milk. Nice cafe but, hey, this isn't Berkeley, so snooty counter staff begone. Farley's in Oakland suffers none or that cafe didactic attitude. Hopefully Farley's west has moved on as well. I love F-east because it's attractive and not-generic. There are antique boxes that hold the napkins, lids, and jackets, and they offer real spoons, not disposable plastic stirrers. Everything is artsy-nice without being, you know, like too nice. It's just right.

  I love this little cafe! They recently renovated and expanded. The avocado toast is excellent! Plenty of food and drink options, along with local pastries. Some of the seating downstairs is marked with a "no laptops" sign which means you'll see people actually talk to each other or read a book made of paper. There is additional seating upstairs which is open to everyone and has a great view of the lower floor and the little parklet out in front of the cafe. There are also a few comfy bar stools tucked into the front of the cafe which make for a cozy spot with good people watching opportunities. The staff here are friendly and always pleasant. Keep an eye out for punch cards for drinks - it took me a while before I saw them at the front register.
