  I was able to make an appointment quickly, and found the front desk staff and nursing staff to be exceptional. Dr. Gary was very knowledgeable in explaining why I need spinal surgery and what method he would use- I especially appreciated that he wasn’t condescending and didn’t talk down to me. But at the end of the appointment, I was shocked to receive a sales pitch for the Emory Bariatric Clinic, and to be told that he wouldn’t schedule surgery until I’d lost at least 50 lbs. I would expect a neurosurgeon to be more sensitive to the fact that I’ve gained weight while dealing with 15+ surgeries in the last 6 years with multiple hospitalizations and a kidney removed, on top of chronic, debilitating spinal pain. And weight loss will happen when that pain is relieved and when I’m able to stand longer than 5-10 minutes at a time. I was humiliated, and felt like I was being pushed into adding bariatric surgery on top of spinal surgery. Incidentally, my mom actually got bariatric surgery at Emory in December because they wouldn’t schedule hip surgery without it. And a friend was told the same thing as me by this same neurosurgery practice. I’ll do the same thing she did- go to another neurosurgeon.

  Dr. Nick Boulis and his Staff performed micro vascular decompression surgery on me for trigeminal neuralgia on September 12, 2014. I was at the ' end of my rope' and they gave me a lifeline. The change has been nothing more that miraculous but I know it was the expertise, experience and competance of Dr. Boulis and his assistants that made it possible. I am very blessed by having Dr. Boulis recommended to me.

  The staff and the facility are the best around. When I was there, the staff was outstanding and the quality of service and care was fantastic. I have recommended Emory to many friends.
