Fresh, familiar feeling, old school & old world Cafe. Those folks complaining absolutely had it coming. He runs a great place & is very caring to his customers and his long serving staff. Not his fault the snowflakes expect to be catered to by the entire world. If you want internet and elevator music you can't be too far from Starbucks.

Great place for breakfast the eggs are amazing. The portions are extremely generous and the staff are extremely polite and helpful. The decor is quirky with pictures and art work of Edgar Allen Poe adorning the walls. The place has moved as it was originally below Allen Poes home.

TLDR: GO ELSEWHERE. rude owner. don't spend your money in a place that doesn't care about treating customers with minimum respect. I thought this was going to be my new cafe to go to but despite the spaciousness, sweet servers and good coffee, it is not worth dealing with the rude owner. The servers were great and very attentive; coffee was solid. But, the owner kept stopping by our table and staring without talking to us or saying something to the server while pointing to our table. The cafe had only 2-3 other customers at a time (and plenty of space!), we had already ordered and we were not even talking. If the owner didn't like us studying there for 2+ hours, he could've asked us to leave instead of yelling it indirectly to the cafe.

Before you go here, read the Yelp reviews and you'll see just how bad people's experiences have been. Owner treats customers with disrespect and contempt. Screams at people to leave when all but one table is empty. It's one thing to be civilized and come to the customer directly and politely ask that they either order more or leave because of restaurant policy. That would have been perfectly fair and acceptable (even though again, the place was empty). Instead, this guy screams about it (not even at me) but to the entire restaurant. According to other reviews, especially on Yelp, this wasn't the first time. According to other reviews, this guy has blatantly told people he does not care about their experience because he has been open for so long. He clearly thinks he can treat people in whatever way he wants. There are so many great places in NY. Don't go to this place. Show guys like this that you CANNOT just get away with treating customers like dirt.
