Huá fǔ Huà bù (Washington Chinatown) is loosely bounded by 5th and 8th streets NW along H and I, with the famous “Friendship Arch” built over H at 7th. We hopped off the red line train at Gallery Place, and walked just a few short blocks into what could very easily pass for Hong Kong. All the signage… McDonald’s, Hertz Car Rental, the AT&T store… all bilingual, English and Chinese. Of course, there is the prerequisite “Wok ‘n Roll”, which we ignored simply on principle, and went across the street, instead, to a little place called Eat First. Didn’t know if they were encouraging us to eat before showing up here or what, but we went in on empty stomachs nonetheless. Eat First is exactly what you hope for and expect in a Chinese restaurant in Chinatown… two menus (one in English, one in Chinese [the Chinese one has more options that aren’t “Anglo-friendly”]); hot tea on the table as soon as you’re seated; a big, wall-length mirror down one side of the room; and a reeeeeeeaaally friendly manager who sort of hovers around the back of the room watching your every move, so he can direct the server to rush over to you when he thinks you might need something. To start, the tea was perfect. It’s complimentary, served at just the perfect temperature, and is quickly refilled if you need more… just tip the pot lid up to let them know. I ordered the shredded duck chow foon from the Chinese menu, and… well, honestly, I don’t remember what my wife ordered, because the duck chow foon was so freaking good. I’m sorry, but I don’t even know how to describe it. It was savory. There was a decent amount of meat in every bite. The noodles were perfectly done. Everything about it was absolutely delectable, and the portions are hefty. I had to get a to-go box, as did my aforementioned wife for whatever it was she ordered… lo mein or some s4!t, I don’t know. :)

Satisfied some good and classic Chinese food cravings. This is a Cantonese, family-style restaurant. Ordered the Chinese broccoli and Ma Po Tofu. It reminded me of the Cantonese restaurants I used to go to back in Boston's Chinatown. The restaurant itself is not too big, but definitely comfortable. I usually go to New Big Wong, but will take my parents here next time.

Our meal consisted of The Po-Po appetizer, the seafood combination, sweet and sour chicken, and (2) shrimp fried rice - $56.00. The decor was as bland as the flavor of the meal. The absolute worst Chinese food I've ever eaten. Other reviews on Google maps persuaded me to try this place, so I write this review to help the next user. Note - big ups to Pepto-Bismol.

A nice place for a quick bite in the Chinatown. I ordered their Special Fried Rice and it arrived within 5 min. Service is okay but not quite attentive and particularly slow in taking bills (maybe they are 100% sure that you wouldn't go without paying). Offered free hot tea upon arrival. Food portion and taste (I'm talking about the rice I ordered only) is worth the price.
