  I work in retail. There's incentive for customer service and friendly demeanor. This is not retail, it's a government agency, so my expectations are different. Here, I expect a neutral demeanor and an ability to tell me exactly what I need to do to complete my errand. They mostly deliver and on the two occasions I was in there was almost no wait time. I moved to NY State while the bank held the title to my car, so it was not an easy process to get everything changed over, but the license was easy enough with a little research on the internet before coming in so I knew what to bring. I made the mistake of going to the Beacon DMV where I waited over an hour to be told I didn't have the required documents, but at least he could tell me exactly what I needed for next time. At the Dutchess DMV, they were nice enough to let me fill out a form I had forgotten and skip the line after, and finish up the process we started. I only had to wait for that same woman to be finished helping someone while I completed it. The DMV will never be frustration free, but knowing what to expect, what to bring, and the right questions to ask helps a lot! I suggest they have a line just for quick questions because the website doesn't make it easy to find info on what to do if the title is held by the bank.

  It is painful to give a single star to this site. It does not deserve a star. I witness staff chatting to each other when their focus should be 100 percent on moving people in and out. If all seats are taken in the waiting area it is time to focus on work.

  Not knowledgeable enough. I could not register my car because an expired taxi insurance. I was registering the car with private plates. I told them that I would call the taxi insurance company to get reinstated. Well the lady said it could not be done. So I surrendered the taxi plates. After this I get a call from the insurance that I could have pay the bill and get my car re-installed and then transfer to private plates. So now I am stuck without a car for one whole month because wrong info from these employees. They did not even want to try to fix it.
