  Took my BMW in due to burnt oil smell just before the warranty expired. I had researched the problem beforehand and found that BMW's are notorious for the valve cover gasket going bad and causing oil to drip onto the manifold causing the smell. They checked it out and said they couldn't find anything wrong and the smell must be from where chemicals were used to pressure wash the engine. I said, "no, it's an oil burning smell". They said they let it idle for 30 minutes and couldn't find anything. Burnt oil smell continued to get bad until you could see oil pooling on the engine in the rear, but my warranty had run out. I called to complain that it was their fault it was misdiagnosed and now they want over $1000 to replace the gasket. It was my fault for not taking it to another dealer while it was still under warranty. Called BMW of America to complain and they essentially just said "too bad". I'll have to pay someone to fix it, but it won't be Don Jacobs or any other BMW dealer.
