Hi Reese, I'm sorry, I don't recall you visiting our groups. I have a pretty good memory for faces and names, and with how much you are upset now I am truly sorry that I didn't take more time to speak with you. It feels like I dropped the ball on this one. I believe you would benefit from peer support. It's done wonders for me, and I'd love to for you to give us a second chance. Would you please return for a DBSA Albuquerque support group? I will do my very best to have you feel safe and welcome. If you could, it would be a personal favor for you not to edit your initial comment and take some time to work through your issues with DBSA Albuquerque, and more so because I believe some of the reason you are upset is because you are unhappy with our current executive board. It is shameful if it is our board, in particular me and Rasma, and I own my part in this unfortunate situation. Sincerely, I apologize for anything I personally did to make you feel this way about our chapter. Perhaps you would like to speak to other executive board members? If this will allow you to be more comfortable voicing your concerns, this can be arranged. And yes, Rasma and I do make a very good team. We have a lot of cool things we'll be introducing with the city, county, and State. One of these is to help train the personnel at the Albuquerque 911 Call Center. This is very exciting and it is a way for our chapter and our friends to participate in our community and make a real difference in our lives. And yes, I do give a biased five stars to our chapter and our organization. This afternoon I had lunch with the first person who talked to me my first time at DBSA Albuquerque. His name is Dennis and he was the Chapter Door Greeter the night I forced myself to go group. He said hello, he asked my name, and he directed me to the group. I share this openly. I cried the whole first night, in a room where I didn't have to "wear the mask" (peers understand this aphorism). I cried the next week, when I forced myself to go again. And then again. And then again. All the way to today. That was October 14, 2010 Here is why Dennis and DBSA are so important to me. I made the decision to do one of these two things: 1.) Go to DBSA to try a support group. 2.) Kill myself. Dave was also an angel to me that night. My choice to seek peer support saved my life. DBSA Albuquerque gave me the opportunity I needed that night. That is why I give our chapter five stars. Peer support is crucial to my wellness. I've made other friends at DBSA who really matter to me. Christel, Victor, Joe, Jana, Karen, (Raptor name), ... the list is very long. There is a dude who found himself in MDC, and I went and visited each week, well, because I missed him. He has the charm and openness that I cherish in my friends. He might not realize it, but he's helped me through some rough times just because he's... well, he's him. I apologize. Tangents are easy for me to follow, and when it comes to my friends at DBSA Albuquerque, there are so many wonderful tangents to follow. Reese, will you please give DBSA Albuquerque a second chance? If it is Rasma and I who make you uncomfortable, I don't mind in the least doing something else that night. The people you meet are so excellent and understanding. And then maybe at some point you and I can sit and I can learn more about you as a person. That's also something superb about peer support, the closeness and acceptance. I would hate for you to miss the opportunity I had. Of course, if DBSA Albuquerque isn't your cup of tea (I used a cliche.. yikes!), there is a new support group starting on Thursday I believe. It runs parallel to our schedule, which is a really great thing because my understanding it is in another location that has no close peer support. I can refer you to this other group because I''m so hopeful that you don't deny you the strength of peer support. Personally, I don't care whose name is on the support group. It is peer support that is the most important thing. Whew! That's a lot of typing. Best, Steve
