My husband and I have been regularly visiting the David Barnett Gallery for the last 5+ years. David has a wealth of knowledge about artists local and worldwide that is 2nd to none to other gallery owners we have met with over the years. As well, his staff has been extremely professional and helpful in our past experiences of purchasing art pieces from the gallery. Lastly, the gallery's framer creates museum quality frames that have been way beyond our expectations.

A treasure to our art community! Visitors are fortunate to freely explore this beautiful gallery and learn about the artists through lectures, some even serving brunch! There’s always a warm welcome and plenty of information available. It’s a perfect lower-east-side attraction if you’re strolling Brady Street and heading along the lakefront to the Art Museum...a must-stop along the way!!

David Barnett is the plaster saint of art and art community. You would think that a man, so immersed in the culture of expression and creativity, would foster the like. No, actually he is an egotistical maniac, who only looks out for the interest of making money, not art. The same can be said for a tactless staff member at the David Barnett Gallery. I am a photography student at UW-Milwaukee, and I have been working on a project that portrays Milwaukee in a grand, yet connected style; my project requires access to multiple rooftops in the city. However, my request to take a shot from the rooftop patio on the David Barnett Gallery (which has been described as "open") was denied because they don't see "how this project would benefit their business." Worst yet, when I showed up to ask them, in person, Joan [Assistant to David Barnett] literally slammed the door in my face; then, hung up on me when I called for more information. I have been denied access to rooftops before, I knew it would be a part of the project; but the manner in which they have shut me out has sincerely irked me. I just can't comprehend how an art gallery, which is quoted for "meeting the needs of art lovers, collectors, and artists," can deny such a simple request.

David Barnett Gallery is Milwaukee's best kept secret. On my day off, I decided to have lunch by the lake, and go to another more familiar art gallery. As I was walking to MAM, I very accidentally came across David Barnett Gallery. In short, I was so taken with the collection there as well as David and his staff, that I decided to go to MAM another time. Thanks for a really nice "day off"!
