::I volunteer at Mission San Jose in the San Antonio Missions National Historic Park. I'm a miller at the gristmill, a reconstruction of the first gristmill in what is now Texas. I went to the Alamo library to see original work; manuscripts, drawings, photographs and engineering technical work by Mr. Ernst Schuchard, the man in charge of restoring the gristmill in the 1930's. The library staff was kind, helpful, understanding, everything a first-time visitor could ask for. And they got me the material I hoped to find. I am not a scholar, but an interested and involved local. The staff was not concerned about my credentials, although this is a research, by-appointment-only library. They made my visit as pleasant as possible in the midst of a drenching spring rain. The collection and the staff earn 5 stars.
