::Horrible people in the consulate. Very unprofessional. They should be welcoming people wanting to visit their crime ridden country. Instead they have the worse attitude.

::Worst customer service ever. The lady at the front desk kept on asking for other bank statements, even though I submitted bank statements from a savings account where I had sufficient money. They refused to consider them because "I had no activity in my account" ( it was a savings account which I don't often use). I applied for a visa with my husband. We only had one copy of marriage certificate, travel itinerary, etc. They refused to make one more copy, even when I offered to pay, and FYI, they did have a copy machine. So my husband had to find a Fedex, waste another 20 minutes, and make copies. We picked up the passports, without verifying the dates on our visas. When we got to South Africa, after 15 hours of travel, my husband's visa was already expired. They put the wrong dates on it. I almost think they did that on purpose. So we had to give $100 to someone to make phone calls and let us in. They almost turned us back to Europe, and almost ruined our dream vacation. Anyway, long story short, very unpleasant experience at the consulate in Chicago. These people should be happy that tourists want to visit their country and spend money there. Instead of encouraging tourism, they really hinder the visa process, and make things ridiculously complicated for no reason.

::Went in today to get a replacement passport, being from S.A i know bad service and this was definitely anything but that. Got in at 9:30 and left around 10:15, lady behind the counter helped me fill out EVERYTHING i needed help with because it was kinda empty, came out to fingerprint me and adjusted any mistakes i made with me. There were other people there that were being unnecessarily rude and impatient and they were still trying to explain and help them out. Treat them like actual people and im certain you will have a pleasant experience.

::My husband is in Iowa and has tried calling this office for almost a month now - needing a passport renewal so that we can go on honeymoon in April. They simply DO NOT answer the phone and do not call back. Can anyone offer advice, please? The frustration is excruciating!
