::I posted a review 1 year ago and at that time this restaurant was called Tuthill House at the Mill Restaurant... Chef Jeremy that was there is a Michelin Chef who worked with Gordon Ramsay... Chef Jeremy is no longer there, Tuthill House at the Mill Restaurant is not the name of the establishment there any longer... The new establishment, new owners but yet some of the existing kitchen crew may still be there... I have not heard a peep about this place... I live 5 minutes down the road... I have not eaten at what they NOW call Char...I guess I need to give them a shot... What has been stated by some locals is that the new owners is a Kentucky Bourbon company that purchased both the restaurant and the distillery... So let fair be fair and thats why I changed my rating... Dont know the style of food, the quality of the service...but the building is the same as well as the huge porch outside where you can bring your dog and eat table side listening to the Grist Mills water rushing through the stream below... I will be back with a review...

::Char 1788" does not deserve to keep the ratings of the "Tuthill House at the Mill". We have been coming here (Tuthill House at the Mill) every time we go upstate and it was phenomenal every single time. Truly great and exciting menu with amazing drinks. Our last experience at newly renamed Char 1788 was unfortunately pretty bad. We got excited about the new menu and started off with plate of Charred Shishito Peppers (which we get almost always when on menu) but sadly they came in overcooked and all saggy on the bottom covered with too much Parmesan. It's like the chef has never actually ordered this appetizer elsewhere before (or even just googled images) My gf's Trout was OK but my Duck Ragu, which was spaghetti with duck bacon, was very poor and dry (image attached). We also tasted some sand like texture with both of our meals which was probably from poorly maintained grill. Lastly the drinks. They tasted good and I'm sure their all their drink are great BUT, we ordered from brunch menu and my $14 "beermosa" was less than a pint and was basically pislner with orange. I cant justify this drink on the menu because same beer costs half on tap. My gf loves elderflower so she got excited to see an option on the menu but the drink that came tasted nothing like elderflower at all, more like lemonade with champagne and in a tiny champagne glass. I am disappointed that this place is allowed to use old restaurants ratings. This is a new place with new menu and possibly new kitchen staff. SO MAKE A NEW RESTAURANT LISTING FOR IT.

::I was sad to see that my experience here didn't live up to my expectations. The venue is beautiful and the food was great, but the service was just really disappointing. It look about half an hour to get seated and then we weren't served for another twenty minutes. Some of the items I wanted from the menu were not available and substitutes were not available. The cheese plate we ordered had half of the amount of cheese that we ordered but somehow had twice the bread to go along with it. At the end of the night, we were charged for items we never had received. If I ever return, I'm really routing for a better experience from this very well-known local hot spot.
