I’m very bias when it comes to Centura hospitals since I did all my clinical shifts at them. I honestly love Penrose, despite the outdated ER. Anyways I brought my best friend to the ER about one week ago and she was treated so quickly and instantly gave her pain meds for her pain before anything else which was quick and efficient. The nurse and doctor were so sweet at every step of the way. Now I was also at Penrose Hospital a couple days ago being treated by the same nurse and doctor that my friend was treated by and I was treated with almost less understanding and more judgement based off my previous hospitalisations. I think the biggest point is that they need to not be bias by the past and focus on the present issues in front of them. I’m not an easy patient but we are all human beings and we deserve compassion and nuanced perspective. Eventually I was moved to the secure unit where I woke up in the morning to the sweetest security guard I’ve ever met in a hospital. She was so sweet and her name is Skye but she was willing to talk to me and let me color which was so sweet of her. Then she left her shift and the next security guard that came on shift was a young 22 year old named Jake who I joked with and talked to about everything. He also got me like 8 cups of juice which made me very happy. This was a Sunday at like 8 am and he was super duper sweet and was one of the only people who treated me like another human being. He also let me cry when I needed to and tried to comfort me which really helped. Honestly all the security guards were super nice and compassionate and were so much better than anyone on the patient care team. Also, the PETT consult that evaluated me was rude and blunt. You are suppose to want to help but you just seemed extremely burnt out and done with dealing with patients. So fix your attitude, you are contributing to the issues within the mental health crisis in this country. She was extremely standoffish and she didn’t understand body language, despite literally that being part of her job. Her name is Kellee Clark and she needs to learn the fundamentals of treating others equally.

Go ANYWHERE else for an emergency or if you’re in severe pain. Two people in the waiting room, took two and a half hours to see an arrogant abusive doctor. Everything was going (somewhat) smooth until Pain Medication was requested. They will bully, belittle, and discriminate you for asking for pain relief. Even when all your symptoms and results show you have every right to be treated. You have to be in gruesome condition, a mangled mess, or missing a limb in order to receive anything for pain. What an abusive place for ANY patient in these scary health conditions. Patient care is at an all time low here. The Pharmacies were closed on the weekend, due to Easter. Penrose sent me home with nothing. No antibiotics, no pain relief, nothing but a paper script to fill when the pharmacies re-open after the holiday weekend. Penrose Emergency needs HELP, before they help any one.

Every single staff member was kind, helpful, and compassionate. They asked each time if I needed anything else before leaving the room. They asked before ordering any test/medication to see if I agreed with the plan and if I had any questions. Took awhile to be seen, but it is an ED and I was there for a bad asthma exasterbation and not cause I accidentally cut my leg off with a chain saw so completely understandable. Even with that they offered to recheck oxygen levels anytime I felt it may have changed while I was waiting.

I went here last night, unfortunately I had a miscarriage from my first pregnancy. But I felt very taken care of, everyone that came in was so nice and helpful. I felt very supported and that I was being taken seriously. Though it was very hard news to hear they were very kind, and supportive. It was something that I really needed during that time and I can’t thank all of the people there enough.

I cannot believe that my 92-year-old is still waiting after 2hours in the waiting room, severe headache, hypertension... 5 other extremely ill seniors waiting, too. There's no compassion for elderly people at this ER Triage. Finally, we're in the treatment room, and we are getting good care. So, I'm changing my 1-star review to 3stars for now.
