  Great urban beach! Complete with a beach house, featuring public changing rooms, and a food stand. The water was cold and dirty, just how I like it. All the broken glass seemed to be at the Dorchester end of the beach. I think that's because Southie is more into cans than bottles. A lot of the 40 oz.ers have switched over to plastic, also.

  It's a pretty solid beach and the bathhouse is legit, but it was difficult to convince myself to swim because it requires trekking through a seemingly endless stretch of mud (filled with snails and crabs) as you get deeper in the water. The mud gets deeper and softer as well. Granted, it was low tide and the sand seems nicer higher up, so it could be a completely different experience at a different time. The location and scenery are great, so depending on what you prioritize, it's definitely worth a shot. Oh also, no waves.

  Even though the actual sand and water doesn't necessarily rate five stars, the proximity to the city and the fact that I am obsessed with this place and try to come here every day over 80° to swim and play volleyball, I have to say this ranks as one of my favorite beaches. So in terms of how often I come here and think about this place, I would have to say five stars.

  Great nearby beach. I was hesitant to come because of the reputation this beach had for having "needles in the sand" but I was pleasantly surprised! Came here on the 4th of July weekend, and there was almost no-one here, there was no rotting seaweed smell, there was a pleasant light breeze, and we didn't even need to drive because we could take the T. It's no Caribbean island, but it is great for what it is. Definately will return when I don't want to have to drive for a lazy beach day. Edit: if you are here at lowish tide, there is a very long stretch of sandy mud that swallows you to your ankles that you must traverse to reach the water. Also many sharp sea shells in that mudd. This makes it a sub-optimal beach for bringing children who want to frolic in the shoreline, but if you are here to sunbathe and picnic, then this place is great.
