If you have a hankering for all things Italian without the overwhelm of going to eataly, head downstairs at Chelsea Market where this classic Italian grocery store has moved to. Seriously, the last time I was at Chelsea Market I didn't even realize it had moved. I just thought it was gone. I was pleasantly surprised to find it was still there. They have all kinds of pastas and sauces groceries and prepared foods and cheeses, definitely worth a trip!

03/20/2018 Update: The last time I update the review, I must have either overlooked or completely missed their beautiful kitchen and the prepared foods. The store is selling prepared foods, but it is still limited when compared to when they were in the previous location. They also have a kitchen that serves freshly homemade pasta dishes. I tried the pasta sample during my visit, and it was fantastic. I would have ordered a plate, but I’ve eaten from other food vendors. Next time I’ll definitely try their pasta combos. 10/21/2017 Update: Buonitalia has moved to newly expanded location in the basement of Chelsea Market. The new location is well organized with updated interior which they needed in the former location. Although, I’m going to miss the charm of their rustic kitchen in the old location. The sad news is that they don’t have a kitchen in the new location; therefore, they are no longer serving some of my favorite Italian foods. The go to place for any food that are imported from Italy. I go to Bounitalia to purchase hard to find Italian whole coffee beans. They also sell delis, pasta, and ready to eat, in house prepared Italian food.

I visited the new store and was pleased to see all of the authentic Italian products. From the pasta to the different type of Jams. Also, in my opinion, the best Panettones and espresso ive had in NYC. I read some reviews and couldnt help to laugh at some comments. A disgruntle vendor using this platform to try to get paid..lol. First he says they are a succesful business, but they dont pay their bills. Sounds to me like they just didnt pay him..hmmm must be a reason...paid no attention to this guy. Disgruntle employee...not very credible i think. But the guy asking for Jamon Serrano in an Italian store..in NYC none the less. That took the cake. Thats like going to a Chinese store and asking for Udon noodles instead of Lomein..You just dont do it. Lol My suggestion is this..you want authentic Italian product to make great tasting Italian food. Than this place has great things for you to choose from. I havent been disappointed with any of my purchases yet.

This store's old local Italian grocery store vibes have totally gone since it moved downstairs. No more Italian mama style prepared food, like simple pizza or various yummy sandwiches. Also there's no more a sit-down cafe to enjoy the pastries there. The selection of merchandises there also seems to significantly smaller now. The old store was a go-to store for people who crave for authentic Italian food, but the new store feels more like a novelty gift shop for tourists now. What a big disappointment!

This is an awesome destination when shopping for authentic Italian products. Other places usually have higher prices and inferior products. Save yourself time and money and try it out. They even have a nice caffe and prepared foods area.
