::I normally don’t write reviews unless something was overly outstanding or basement subpar. If you can see the stars I gave for this review, you can probably tell the way this is going to go. First, I must state, I have had Bronx Pie a number of times, both in the restaurant and by delivery. We really do like their pizza. We are used to NYC pizza and their pizza is pretty freaking close to it. So I decided to order a pie for delivery on a Thursday night. I ordered the pie online and about 45 minutes later, I called 1. To make sure they actually saw the online order. I know glitches can happen sometimes, it can get busy, and an order can be missed. 2. Just wanted to see if the delivery went out yet. I called, and a gentleman picked up. I asked, “Hi, just checking to see if an order I placed went out yet?” To which he replied, “We have like 15 orders out (scoff). I’m gonna have to check.” Now, I don’t know if maybe it was an off day for him, someone ran over his foot or something, but normally an appropriate response to the question from a customer asking to see if a delivery went out would be, “Sure, let me check. Can you tell me the address?” That’s all. Frankly, you should be happy you have 15 deliveries out, because that means you have business. Would you rather not have a single sale? OK, so I get over the response. I am then asked, “How did you order?” To which I replied, “I ordered online.” Now here is the Wow moment, he stated “Do you know how easy it is to just pick up a phone and call?” So of course it takes me about 8 seconds to process the comment and delve into my psyche making sure that I am not misinterpreting his comment as something else. But no, I’m pretty sure it’s exactly as it translates. I reply “Wow, did you actually just say that?” To which he replies, “Yes, I actually did.” In the next 6 seconds I contemplated the following 1.How much do I really want the pizza pie? 2. How much radon infested water has he drunk in his lifetime? 3. Do I ever want to eat from there again because my next response can really pave the way for my future Bronx Pie pizza endeavors? 4. How to stop my husband, who is seated next me and overheard the entire conversation, from getting dressed and heading over to the pizzeria because I could see that event unfolding(would have been an interesting night) 5. And figuring out who is calling me on the other line.It was the delivery guy calling me as he was in front of the house. Now I would like to say that I lost my appetite at that point and told the guy on the phone, to forget the order and just tip the delivery guy for a wasted trip. But I didn’t. I was still hungry. I hung up with Mr. Wonderful, paid for the pizza, tipped the driver who I must say was polite, smiled and handed over the food carefully. And we ate the Pie. So a few things. Customer service isn’t for everyone. If you can’t manage a nice response, stick to making the pizza. The pizza doesn’t care. No one cares how many deliveries your business has. That’s your problem and frankly, a pretty good problem to have. If you are running late, then sure, let the customer know it just a very busy night but you are making the effort to get the food to them. That is enough for most people. If you don’t like checking your system for online orders, then maybe this century is not for you. Get rid of the third party online system that is likely taking a chunk of commission but is in return opening your business up to an online community that now at days even has toilet paper delivered via Amazon. And then yes, all you will get are the phone calls. And to be quite honest, you should really only stick with online orders if you are going to continue to talk with people on the phone, because the submit button for the online order is a much nicer entity. So yeah, try the pizza. Its great. And generally all the employees I have met are very nice. God help them though if they have to work with him because if he behaves that way with a customer I can only imagine his attitude towards his fellow employees.
