  Lower Broadway in Wartime by Colin Campbell Cooper (1856-1937) "Wartime" does not look so bad in this view by Cooper. His earliest paintings of lower Manhattan had a somber tone, but they brightened as he followed the crowd to Midtown. Here is a cheery view of a society that is surely coming into its own.
