::As someone with over a year of experience in pole dancing that has trained with a variety of instructors between here in the Hudson valley to New York City, I can not in good conscious recommend a pole dancing class at bootleg yoga. Pole fitness is not a sport that can be picked up overnight, it takes a lot of time, dedication, and patience but with the industry booming as it is, places such as Bootleg think they can buy a few cheap poles, watch some DVDs and teach it back to students who know nothing about pole. It's dangerous, inconsiderate, and dumb. My first and only class started with a few stretches before the instructor, Gia went over body rolls incorrectly. She proceeded to go over basic spins on a spinning pole, so no strength or momentum is being built as you basically just hold on and let the pole spin for you. Not to mention every single spin she taught us was incorrect which could have resulted in a serious injury. Like any other dance class or sport, form is essential in the learning process. At some point in the class, one pole got loose from the ceiling, and was taken down. Thankfully no one was hurt. Later on a second pole, the one I was on went down while I was still on it, spinning backwards with minimal control bc it was on a spin pole. Had it been an inexperienced poler, it could have ended worse. Thankfully the ceiling light caught the fall of the pole and didn't come crashing down with me. Gia did apologize and I sat class out while she proceeded to teach these girls how to climb these weak poles. She told me she not only isn't certified, but she just started pole dancing in April! It's places like this that have a lack of proper education and training that make the pole industry look bad. It's insulting and dangerous to think that poling is as easy as teaching people how to do it while you learn it yourself. This business is gonna get someone seriously hurt and unfortunately I am not convinced that this incident is enough to convince them to stop. If I could give them 0 stars I would.
