My father is 87 and he was having difficulty walking, which we thought was just a progression of his age and underlying health issues. He then became confused and it we decided to call an ambulance and have him taken to the ER. The only hospital we could get him to was St. Joseph's. The ER was quiet and clean. The staff was wonderful and they had his scans and bloodwork done in no time. His potassium was dangerously high and his kidneys were failing. My initial reaction was to transfer him to St. Francis but I was advised against it due to his condition. I reluctantly agreed. He was admitted a few hours later, had breathing issues and it turned out to be influenza causing all of his problems and for which he was admitted to CCU. The CCU staff are amazing. They got his potassium levels back to normal and his kidneys functioning better within two days. They continue to support him on a vent while treating this flu. They are unbelievably attentive and caring to my father as well as our family. They saved my father's life. Don't let the size of the hospital or bad reviews fool you. I work with doctors for a living so I have a little insight on various hospitals. We are usually at the bigger hospitals like St. Francis and NY Presbyterian in Manhattan and must tell you that this has been the best hospital experience we have ever had. Perhaps they're not too crowded like other hospitals but the care he is getting there far exceeds any other hospital we have been to and we are so grateful that he is in such good hands there. I would go to this hospital myself in a heartbeat! We give this hospital and the staff full recommendation because they have been nothing less than excellent and extremely caring!

Just left st. Joseph’s and have some wonderful things to say. Today was a nightmare. My dog had bitten my son. He definitely needed a plastic surgeon but my insurance doesn’t really care about that kind of stuff. The attending physician Pam advocated for us and found us one that would work with us. The woman is amazing. She wouldn’t take no for an answer. The nurses and pa’s were all attentive and helpful. Dr Sayed was amazing. He stitched him up and the fact that he put his patient above money means the world to us. I can’t say enough nice things about him. The other plastic surgeon was rude abrupt and unforgiving when it came to my son. Very happy with this visit! I must say there are angels in that hospital and they all helped us today!

Average - hard to rate response times because it can depend on how busy the ER is. One recommendation for the hospital is to PLEASE SET TIME LIMITS for how long a TV can stay on in a patient's room. There should be a midnight curfew on it for the sake of the other patient in the room. My roommate had her TV on ALL NIGHT with the volume up, and apparently with the nurses' consent. It was shining directly in my face and the patient was very belligerent when I asked her at 3:15 am how much longer she would be watching it. Bad enough that the nurses call loudly to each other while standing in the patient doorways and tests and checks go on all night. The all night TV doesn't need to be another distraction to the rest that patients need.

My daughter had a very high fever so we took her to her primary Dr. Her Dr determined that she had a bad kidney infection, so she directed us to go to the ER for treatment, she believed my daughter needed IV antibiotics. I took her to St Joseph Hospital ER, the Dr there gave her some IV antibiotics and a prescription and we were sent home. The next day she still had a very high fever, which shouldn't be happening, so we went back to the ER and they gave her some fluids and then transferred via ambulance to Good Sam Hospital. At Good Sam they gave my daughter the same medicine they gave her the first day I went to St Joseph and we were sent home. The next day her fever was still going very high, so we took her back to her primary who sent her to get a sonogram, to check for kidney damage (neither hospital did that) and changed her antibiotics and after one dose there was a noticeable difference and after the second dose the fever was completely gone. The staff at both hospitals were very nice. I went to St Josephs ER twice and was sent to Good Sam once, all in less then 48 hours the treatment my daughter got there really didn't help her and I end up with three ER co-pay charges. Doesn't seem fair.
