  Brooch repair Apr. 2015: The damaged 18 ct catch post was replaced by one 1/3 the size and weight (at most) and moved outward to accept the pin's thin point making it precarious. I was then charged $10 over the estimate. I was told the original original post was used for solder. Soldering only requires about 1/100 of that material. I'll have to go to an ethical jeweler.
