::Meh - more of a Blues and Soul club than Jazz, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, just false advertising. I have been a few times and after living in NOLA it is hard to find a good Jazz club. Unfortunately, Black Cat is not such a place.

::Look up the live music list (or don't), make a reservation down stairs, and just enjoy the night. Drinks and food are great, cover charge included on bill. Lose yourself in what makes the community really wonderful.

::3.5 stars. Cool jazz based club, in a dumpy area.two floors, bottom floor has live jazz band playing and a bar.top floor is bar area only.you can hear the music from upstairs as well though. Dark ambience, but a cool vibe. This place is located in a dumpy area though. You may not feel too safe as you park and walk to this location. Drinks are ok, but nothing special.local jazz band plays there a lot, didn't see any "name" acts listed on the calendar. The house band was ok though, mixing it up with jazz, singing and some funk/hip hop vibes. Cool place if you want to change it up.

::As a musician I have to say this venue just has one of the coolest vibes for jazz/funk in the city. It's got incredible sound, an amazingly kind staff, and just a very cool vibe overall. I saw Butcher Brown here last week and I had just found out my guitar was stolen a few minutes earlier from my studio and they even offered to let me in for free to make me feel better (which I turned down because I want the money to go to the band). But seriously you can tell the people here deeply care about the music, not just the bar, food, or drinks. Really great spot if you're looking to unwind, go on a date, and chill out in an old school meets new school jazz club in the city.

::What a rad space, we are visiting from Portland Oregon. On a recommendation from a guy sitting across the bar at dinner, we discovered black cat. It was the perfect way to end the evening. The club is a cool bar on the ground floor and the club is in the basement. The vibe at the Black cat very cool. The jazz was fun and the scene was reminiscent of something you would find from the beatnick generation. We loved it, no food was ordered just drinks. Their handmade sodas are delicious! All in all this is a place we will recommend to everyone who is visiting SF and we will be back.
