  Babe's is located in the village of West Haverstraw, NY. This village, on the gentle sloping western bank of the old North River with waters originating at Lake Tear of the Clouds, today is better known as the mighty Hudson River. This comfortable local restaurant fits well with the surrounding quaint village. I am fairly sure that this establishment does not predate John Glass's calico printing factory; which can obviously be assumed to be where calico cats were first made. Does this cat making factory have something to do with the outline of the town looking like a neighing goat with its ears flapping back towards the West? It's hard to say, but not beyond reason. But, alas this family oriented friendly town and Babe', a wonderful restaurant that serves tasty generous portions, hides a seedy past. Many locals will vividly recall the infamous 1780 incident, an incident that taints this otherwise picture perfect setting. Although the memories are vivid, the welcoming citizens of West Haverstraw (pop. ~10k) are reluctant to open up about this intriguing part of their history. After much coaxing with plenty of Babe's incredibly delicious Overstuffed Pastrami Kinsh, delightful Caprese Sandwiches, and perfectly sweet and tangy Pulled Pork Sandwiches, the local folks will tell the story that so many in this village try to forget. It was September of 1780, the fledgling country had declared its independence from the beginning British and was then embroiled in a revolution. It was on the 21st of this month that John André landed ashore the might Hudson to confer with Major General Benedict Arnold; spilling the beans. Which, I might add the beans at Babe's are also scrumptious.

  Looks like a dive biker bar BUT food was great, atmosphere very nice, staff very helpful and prices very reasonable. Only went once so far but can't wait to go back again. Went a second time and the signature grilled chix wrap was not good. Specials that the GF had last time and this time were very good tho. Definitely gonna try again.

  Jerry is a great guy. First time there and we felt like family. Danielle behind the bar was just as friendly. We’ll definitely be back. Great place!

  Always a top notch, pleasant experience. Jerry is awesome, super friendly staff and yummy food.
