TLDR: NYC quality Jewish Deli with Baltimore heritage. Gets very busy, but lines move quickly. Come for anything with pastrami on it. Vibe: 4/5. Attman's is a Baltimore landmark, serving up sandwiches from the same location for over 100 years which can be seen in this time capsule deli. The neighborhood surrounding the store has dramatically changed over the years, leaving it in a less than desirable part of town, but it's well worth the pilgrimage. Silver lining to the area is that parking is mostly free and easily obtained. The old-school interior of the deli includes a counter that spans almost the entire length of the restaurant with the menu clearly laid out on the wall behind it. In the adjacent space to the left of the counter is a large dining room, complete with autographed pictures of celebrities who have patronized Attman's over the years. The ordering system is pretty simple, you stand in line at the counter until a staff member takes your order, you pay at the register near the door and then you can either dine in or take it to go. Be warned, during peak lunch hours this place gets super crowded, with sometimes a line wrapping around the block. However, the staff is efficient at what they do and can get through a long line in no time. Service: 5/5: During our visit for Sunday lunch, the entire staff at Attman's was not only welcoming, but proficient at getting us our delicious meal in a timely manner. Upon entering the deli at 1:30pm, the line had queued all the way to the back of the restaurant. To our surprise, the staff was able to move through the line in less than 10 minutes. Then once our order was taken, it only took another 10 minutes until we were chowing down. This is the kind of turn around time you come to expect from a tenured deli at lunch rush. Food: 5/5. There's a reason Attman's has been slinging sandwiches since 1915, the unrivaled portions and taste. During our visit, we decided to get the Attman's Specialty Reuben, Nosh On Rye, 2 coddies and an order of onion rings for dine in. Touted as a Baltimore favorite, the specialty Reuben was piled high with warm pastrami, sauerkraut, Russian dressing and swiss between 2 homemade potato Latke pancakes. Though delicious, it was a bit unwieldy to handle while eating. The latkes didn't add much to the already flavorful combination of pastrami, sauerkraut and dressing so it just became more of a logistical burden. The Nosh on Rye took home best in show at lunch, bringing everything I wanted from a sandwich to the table. We opted to substitute the corned beef for pastrami on our Nosh which is a highly recommended move. The sandwich is served club style with 3 pieces of rye bread, 1 piece separating the pastrami and brisket. The succulent pastrami paired perfectly with the beefiness of the brisket. Along with the piles of meat, the sandwich also comes garnished with homemade coleslaw and Swiss which added both a pleasant textural crunch and creaminess to each bite. The onion rings were also a great addition to the meal, offering a nice crunchy change in texture between sandwich bites. Unfortunately, the biggest upset of our lunch came from the coddies. Traditional Baltimore coddies are typically fried pattys of salted cod, mashed potatoes and parsley. At Attman's, it appears they are using more of a stuffing based filling (think Stovetop stuffing) with barely any cod flavor. These are unlike any coddie I have had in my lifetime and personally, they weren't for me.

Very good deli. Drove more than an hour to try it, and it was worth it. Good taste, huge amount of meat at a reasonable price, and friendly service to boot, what more could you ask for from a deli? Would definitely be back and recommend.

I've been going to Altman's Deli for years, twice a year is the most. My lean corned beef sandwich wasn't what it used to be as far as actual meat weight on the sandwich. I was hungry so I ate it and the flavor was as it is supposed to be really(" good! ")

The food is phenomenal! I got the shrimp salad, my husband got the chicken salad, and we got a corn beef on rye for a friend. Our plans with our friend fell through, so hubby and I split the corn beef. It was so tender, it melts in your mouth. The employees are super friendly and outgoing. The guy who made our sandwiches chatted with us the whole time. He also let us sample anything we wanted.

Definitely one of the best Deli's I have been to, and believe this to be the best in Baltimore. The pastrami sandwich is delicious and leaves you with a feeling for wanting to come back. The portion size is copious for the price you pay. Definitely recommend.
