  Donkey's Restaurant is a small restaurant in the heart of Camden. The restaurant specializes in Cheese-Steaks. Only cheese-steaks. The restaurant does give you a small variety of condiments to add to your meal along with the extra choice of a side of fries that would cost you a reasonable $2-$3 more. The restaurant itself is approximately 70 years or so old, which is shown by the lack of updated equipment throughout the small shop. The smell is more reminiscent of a bar than a restaurant, with the lingering scent of age old cigarettes and alcohol. To be honest it reminds me of an old bowling alley. Although the restaurant seems like it could accommodate roughly 30 people or so, it doesn't really feel like the kind of place that you're really meant to dine in. As my colleagues and I sat and ate, we watched as regulars came in, got food and went on their way. It seems more appropriate to close shop and turn the place into a carry out only kind of place, or even a food cart. Overall the experience was pretty good. The cheese-steak itself is about your average sized cheese-steak with meat and cheese slapped between two poppy-seeded hamburger buns, allowing the customer to eat a bit more easily. Very well made. The chef and waitress also took note that we were new comers and made the whole thing a bit more easy for us. The only real negative aspect of the restaurant is the mentality of the people who go there for the first time. Some (like my friends and I) may show up at the restaurant expecting a restaurant in conditions similar to that of Five-Guys or Chipotle. This is the wrong mentality. Coming to this restaurant, new comers must take in account that this place is in the middle of Camden NJ and it is also 70 or so years old with no renovations (or obvious ones) for the last 20 or 30 years. Once this is inside the head of someone who is new to this spot, the only thing that can be focused on is the food, just as it should be.

  The food at Donkeys was not what I expected. When you think of a bar, you expect wings,burgers, and cheesesteaks. From not being around town, I did not know they only sold cheesesteaks but for one place only selling one meal it was pretty busy. The cheesesteaks were delicious served on soft Del Buono's rolls with your not typical poppy seed roll.

  I visited Donkeys for the first time with my friends for lunch on (4/9/15). It was a great to experience with friends, wouldn't recommend going alone unless you're a regular. It was a seat-yourself type of place, alcohol was offered, bar sitting was available too, along with bigger tables in the back of the restaurant. It was a little dark inside and none of the furniture or decorations matched, it seemed as if Donkeys used to be the place to hangout with your friends to drink and eat their famous cheesesteaks. I was in complete shock when I found out they only made cheesesteaks and french fries. It wasn't your typical cheesesteak, it was on a poppy seed burger roll, something different, but i ENJOYED IT. There is parking and you can't miss it on Haddonfield Ave. I would recommend stopping by to enjoy a more "homestyled' cheesesteak compared to Pats, Genos, or Tony Luke's

  We order Donkey's for take out, and they are by far the best cheese steak I've ever had. The cost may be slightly on the up side, but as the old saying goes, you get what you pay for. And Donkey's gives you the best.
