  Tonight was my first time back to Assaggi after their renovations, and to be honest, thank goodness for this. The food is amazing as it always has been, however prices are still on the higher end. They washed away the stuffy pretentiousness that is often associated with McLean and brought in a wave of contemporary freshness. The new marble bar top looks amazing and I'll definitely be rushing here to have a drink after work. The waiters have that perfect mix of European hospitality and privacy. Leaving you to enjoy your meal without the slightest feeling of being rushed, something seldomly experienced in Northern Virginia. The restaurant was booming, especially for a tuesday night, even with the crowd, the volume level was still very nice and appropriate for the intimate atmosphere. They opened a neighboring pizzeria that I've heard is amazing and I'll be rushing to try it. $16 Pasta Night on Tuesdays. Their mushroom risotto (regularly $26) is incredible and worth a visit for alone. With the renovation came a change in owners, but thankfully the chef stayed the same. They've introduced a nice brunch, a 3-course dinner for $39 from 3-6pm, and live piano on Thursday nights. Everything is more upscale than your average eatery, and the italian here is much more refined than a typical redsauce joint. Everything about the dishes here are composed and things just feel deliberate rather than thrown on. Overall, this place is definitely coming back onto my McLean restaurant rotation (currently: Tachibana, DaDomenico, Cafe Tatti, House of Fortune, Amoo's and Listrani's)

  I was invited last night to a hidden gem in the heart of McLean, Assaggi Osteria. My one girlfriend exclaimed "it's a REAL ITALIAN RESTAURANT." Although there is a formal dining room, we sat at the bar and had the pleasure of Bartenders Dusan and Maurizo taking great care of us. There was even live music. Assagi has been open for 10 years and just 3 weeks ago converted their private dining room into a pizzeria. It has a brick pizza oven and they import the tomatoes from Italy (san marzano sul sarno). We had the Caprese salad with red and yellow tomatoes, along with the scallops and lentils. It was late so unfortunately we didn't have any pasta.   The food and service are impeccable. Assaggi is my favorite place in McLean for Italian cuisine.
