::We worked with Always by Design to renovate an urban home and had a wonderful experience. We could not be happier with the result. And the process was as painless as could be. The designs, innovative problem solving and service went above and beyond our expectations.

::Was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to build a new house in Philadelphia and Ed could not have been a better person to work with. He took into consideration our needs and design interests and provided a functional floor plan suited to our needs and an amazing design

::My husband and I engaged Ed Barnhart of Always by Design to draft plans for a whole house renovation. We purchased a modest colonial in Moorestown, NJ; which after living in its many small rooms for two years decided we needed more space and a more functional, modern layout of the first floor. Ed worked with us for months to give us exactly what we wanted, needed and could afford. His process is amazing and we always felt heard and understood. I cannot stress enough how much this meant to us. We came to rely upon Ed's honed process of listening, assessing, prioritizing and consolidating (over and over and over). He is nothing if not gracious and patient. His attention to detail is also above reproach. His final rendering was better than anything we could have imagined. His design was fresh, ingenious and forward thinking. The construction documents were meticulous; every builder that reviewed them commented on Ed's thoroughness and professionalism. Our builders, who are some of the best, trusted his design completely and did not deviate from it. We did not need to contact Ed during the entire 3 months of the renovation - not once! I think that speaks volumes not only about his mastery of architectural design but also of building. And beyond the documents, Ed has supported a wholistic approach to our property renovation by meeting and working together with other professionals that we've engaged with. We cannot say enough good things about Ed's work and character.

::I first met Ed Barnhart when I was interviewing architects to build an eco-minded home on a sloped lot just outside Philadelphia. He came across as quiet and unassuming, qualities that, at the time, led me to believe he wouldn’t be edgy enough for the project. It impressed me though that, even without being offered the job, he researched the lot and township requirements, uncovering that there were restrictive building codes for the steep slope -- codes that would drastically affect the construction. He saved us from a bad purchase, and we went on to look at other potential building sites. When we did find a suitable lot and got the chance to start our project, the glitz of a large firm with adventurous eco-centric projects caught our eyes. The trendier architect gauged us at every turn, was uncommunicative, and after we signed the contract, handed our project off to associates whom we later discovered were unlicensed. Unhappy with their design, we called Ed, told him that we had a limited budget and needed to feel that we had a place in the design process. He proposed using a straight-forward AIA contract with a fair fixed fee, then held our hands through the design, permits, and building process. The design we ended up with (after his tireless revisions) has made us immeasurably proud. We found Ed to be extremely patient, humble and cooperative -- traits I’ve found rare in most people as highly educated and talented in this profession. He met deadlines with enthusiasm, and shouldered criticism with earnest concern and creative exploration. More than once he was able to enlighten, and change our minds about what we thought we wanted from our dream home. My husband and I instinctively trusted him, and we have not been disappointed. We found our opinions never fell on deaf ears, and our expectations were always exceeded. He has always made me feel that I was a partner in this great endeavor, and never belittled a concern. In the end I realize that our project wouldn’t have been much of a home if we hadn’t involved Ed.
