I stayed in midtown Phoenix for work and very happily discovered this gem. I had dinner, brunch, and lunch, on three different days. Each meal was hot, fresh, and delicious, and the service was fantastic. The carnitas are particularly amazing, as are the margaritas! If you find yourself near here, do yourself a favor and have a meal!

Macayos has been a long time member of the Midtown community. With Woody's Macayo on Central the legend is returned, but with a little bit of a modern twist. While keeping some of the popular staples, there is a new 'build your own' section of the menu. Choose filling, choose a style (bowl, tacos, button for example), choose your topping and a couple sides. It is clever and filled with tasty items. It can still use a little fine tuning but is filled with tasty choices. The atmosphere is more in keeping with current styles and changes the feeling of the last tenant significantly while keeping some of what was great about the space. Overall, a good effort at modernizing a classic.

Lovely establishment with excellent service, awesome new decor, and of course, really great food. I went tonight with my girlfriend and we were served by Jo Jo, who was just fantastic. She had a really cheerful demeanor and a positive attitude, and made a nice night out that much better! 10/10 Also, fried avocados. Don't think about it, just do it.

Outdoor space was decent, however the temperature in early April was getting warm even in the shade of the canopy on the patio space. They have fans outside but they did not have them turned on. The music and party of 14 who were the only others out there at lunch time on a weekday made it difficult to hear those at our own table. The staff were accommodating to our group. The chips were plentiful and the food was great.

The fact that people frequent this establishment boggles my mind. Phoenix is a Haven for delicious, cheap Mexican food and somehow enough people spend money here that they can afford a lease off of central avenue. The chips were hard, thick, tasteless, and not homemade (even mission chips from Sam's club would be better). No diabetes jokes can be made about the sweetness of the margaritas. No, they were far too sweet for that. These margaritas are most likely used by the CIA to torture suspected terrorists; way more effective and way more politically correct. The salad we ate was bland and the tamale bites were mushy. We had a very nice waitress who was on top of things the entire time (thus the two star rating).
