Usually it's interesting, but sometimes it more of the same. The space is haunting and beautiful, and the opportunity to step outside onto the balcony deck is refreshing, especially during a chaotic art murmur. I like the aesthetic, and usually the featured artist has something to offer and the skills it takes to build something that speaks to the viewer. It's good to find some art at art murmur.

I've been a fan of Vessel since it was on Ashby ave. near the Claremont Hotel. The new space in Oakland is far better for viewing art. The gallery is spacious with high ceilings and old wooden floors making it inviting for viewing wall art and sculpture without feeling cramped. Lonnie is such a wonderful curator. She is unpretentious, warm and has a great eye for artwork of all kinds. She will spend time with you, introduce you to the artists and lets you feel confident and relaxed about supporting the arts. Isn't that how it should be? She is fussy about the lighting and gets it right. I have one piece I've never lit well and now I know why. I've made several purchases over the years and loved every one of them regularly. There is often live acoustic music and sessions where you can hear the artists discuss their work. If you skip out on Vessel at the monthly Murmur you are missing out. The art here is really amazing. Lonnie selects her artists and pieces carefully. It is a really good space to enjoy interesting art and jewelry.
