The Nerd Gym is my favorite place to work out in Tucson. The group workouts are challenging, the 6 week challenge kicked me into better eating habits, and the coaches are just the best! The community has to be the best part. We all lift each other up, and encourage - rather than make grunty noises and look in the mirror all day. Definitely a place I am comfortable working out, and a group of people I call family.

There are a lot of awesome aspects about this place...I love their mission statement, and how it is geared towards inclusivity. It is probably one of the most body positive gyms you could set foot in. They make the work outs different every time which makes it easy not to get burnt out. The trainers are usually pretty helpful, and generally knew when to encourage me to push my self harder or to suggest that I was working myself too hard and should take a step back. The meal plan helped me learn a lot about my body...it was difficult at first but became easier with time. I began to feel better overall...what I've noticed since I've been off of it is that I crave healthier foods which is awesome. I also slept 100 times better, which wasn't something that I expected. However, it is too expensive and that makes it inaccessible to a lot of people who simply can't afford it. I understand that they want to pay their employees a livable wage, and they absolutely should...I am on board with that. I am not saying I have a clear answer on how to do both, and do not have the mental energy to figure it out...its just the one thing that has held me back from staying on. I simply can't afford it at this point in my life. However, if you can afford it and are looking for a gym where the workouts are fun and the staff is supportive then this is your place.

I participated in the 6 week challenge, you put down a deposit and if you reach your goal you get it back making it "free". My goal was to loose 5% body fat and I lost 6% so it did work. Seeing as I was already active I do not think the gym time helped reach that goal at all, it is all in the diet, which is typical and there's countless studies that show your diet affects your weight way more than the time you put in the gym so that's not too surprising. However, I felt a bit like the time going to the gym was wasted, the classes are 50 minutes and the structure is something like this: 10 minute warm up and introductions, 5-10 minutes active warm up or slow negatives, 20-25 minutes of circuit training and 10 minute cool down/stretch. So 30 minutes or less of hard work, I would push myself as hard as I could during that time, but often wished I had more time. All in all, I had a good experience and it was a great jump start to a healthier lifestyle but it is not worth it to me to pay for the classes moving forward. The community is really great and friendly and if that is something you need from a gym then this is the place for you.

I finished my six week challenge on Saturday and I couldn't be more pleased! I exceeded my goals with a six percent reduction in overall body fat and an equivalent of a 12 pound weight loss. The workouts with Alicia were well organized and challenging. What I liked about the workouts is they were fast pace with little resting between sets, and they were only 45 minutes so it was very doable and it fit my schedule. Instead of being 10 pounds heavier at this time after Thanksgiving, I'm 10 lbs lighter and ready to take on the rest of the holiday temptations.!

I signed up for the Nerd Gym's 6 week challenge on 10/1/17 with a goal to get stronger and lose fat. The first two weeks I could barely complete any of the exercises and the meal plan was super hard to commit to (after eating bad for years). I wanted to give up and revert back to my old ways plenty of times and the reason I was able to stay on track is because the support from the coaches is tremendous. I don't think they realize their support and encouragement is the #1 reason I signed up for the full membership. The #2 reason I signed up is because the workouts really challenge me and I feel better 100% of the time I attend the training classes. The classes are inviting, with a mix of people with all different types of fitness levels encouraging one another. I've been successful losing weight on my own but it always comes back overtime. I realized I needed to find something I enjoy if I want to be in MY best shape. I've personally spent years taking care of everyone and everything but myself and this is the first time in a VERY long time that I feel I'm taking true control of my personal health and fitness. I will be forever indebted to the Nerd Gym!
