I had an opportunity to visit the McKenna Museum of Art recently with my best friend, Cathy Hughes and a group of loved ones. We received a tour from the museum's docent, Kim and one of the founders, Dr. Dwight McKennastopped in for a bit to share his insights about how he started the collection and stories about some of the artists featured. Kim gave a was extremely knowledgeable and the collection is breathtaking. As a long time art collector, I was very impressed with the diversity of the artifacts, documents and art that share some of the history of American creativity. Works from Henry Ossawa Tanner to Romare Bearden, this collection, and not to mention the amazing building that it is housed in, is a fabulous place to learn more about New Orleans, the United States and in particular, the contributions of people of color. I will visit again and take guests. Do treat yourself to an uplifting and enchanting experience. Dyana Williams

Beautiful building and quite befitting for a museum. Hardwood floors, high ceilings, bricked exterior, aged interior; all add to the appeal and charm of the McKenna Museum. Artifacts on loan from the McKenna Family are displayed for all to see. Create your own story or read the label beneath the artifact for the details; either way, all the treasure inside make the museum all that and a bag of chips. Additionally, this facility can be rented out for various events ie parties, wedding ceremonies etc. Great place. Quite a hidden treasure.
