If you are sensitive about your ethnicity or religion or the jukebox, maybe you should go to your safe place.

Chill crowd and good drinks. Been here a few times really late at night and it's always a good place to just have drinks and chat it up with a few friends or people you meet at the bar.

So this sign was posted up in a local bar in Harlem, New York City called “The Duck”. The sign said "no liquor served to Indians after sundown." We asked the bartender who to contact to take it down, and she said she doesn’t like the sign either, but the owner doesn’t want to take it down. Culturally, I see this as a backhanded slap to the face of my people, what we’ve been through and how we have been discriminated against. If that sign said any other ethnicity, “No liquor served to Blacks/Mexicans/Asians after sundown”, do you think that sign would still be up or ignored? Growing up on an Indian Reservation my whole life, I have witnessed the poverty-stricken communities and the issues that we face as indigenous people. And when I read this sign, it only adds insult to injury. The fact that someone wants to keep a piece of history of discrimination and cultural genocide against us as a “souvenir” makes me realize this is the reason why we are still facing these issues today. We are still alive. We deserve to have our voices heard. We won’t put up with this anymore.
