The "workout" is an hour and nothing lasts more than a minute- I kept telling myself that as I grimaced through shaking muscles and screaming brain! Music was loud, fun and upbeat. Teachers were all hands on and very instructive about alignment and modifications that I may have needed. Studio was clean and front desk greeter was friendly and helpful. But best of all in 10 days I saw results!

So, since the beginning of January, I have been on a quest to find a way to move and strengthen my body that was natural, fun, and that I enjoyed doing. I am someone who is motivated to work out, so that's not even a factor for me. Even so, there are many stars that need to align for that to happen: finding something that fits in your schedule, not waisting any time with waiting for a changing area if you are like me and exercise during your lunch break, remembering to sign up, to bring your workout clothes, including your socks. I am happy to say I found it! TDM on Market Street. It has everything I need- a variety of classes that I can take during my work day, as my lunch break, a nice, airy, large changing area with showers and lockers. What I love even more is the quality of the classes and the instructors. I have tried other barre classes where you move super fast, but during the 8 classes I tried, the instructors did not come by to check or correct my posture, which is super important not only to be effective, but also to prevent injury. The classes have a mindfulness quality to them, in that all the instructors help you connect you mind to what your body is doing, and you get to set your pace- whether you need to challenge yourself that day, or take it a little easier. Different than cheating, though! Honestly, I couldn't come up with something to make it better. Well, OK, maybe espresso shots before class. Seriously, I kind of love this place!

I literally started going to Dailey Method so I could shower. My kids were then 1 and 3 and I was looking for a place with childcare. I emailed and asked if they would watch the kids long enough for me to shower after and when they said yes, I signed up. At that time, they had an instructor named Jonathan who was super strict on me. I loved it - I came in thinking I could finally take a shower by myself and he was making me actually concentrate and focus on myself for an hour. I personally had to work up to taking Brittany (the owner's) classes. I didn't work out during my pregnancies and my body was out of whack after nights spent slumped in a chair breastfeeding and walking with a carrier. Her classes are demanding. What I love about Brittany's class now is that she has a deep understanding of anatomy, she is 100% focused on the class for its entirety, she is intense about bringing you into the room and pushing you to be focused for the entirety of the class and she has excellent taste in music. Its a workout that's given me the best body of my life at 42, but also Brittany's perspective has shifted my mindset from what I look like to focusing on my overall health and working toward having good posture, being strong, flexible and supporting my joints. (A message that women don't always get, unfortunately.) In my 20s I had knee problems and had to go to physical therapy. If I get 2 classes in per week, I can run my Saturday 5K now without the slightest bit of soreness in my knee. Brittany also brings the same intensity and focus into training all the teachers there and every time I get off my schedule and take a new instructor, I'm pleasantly surprised by the class. Some favorites I'd recommend if you are trying for the first time are Audrey, Michelle and Usha.

A gem of a boutique studio. This Dailey Method is a true local business run by a lovely family (Brittany and Mike). I've been consistently impressed by the friendliness and care in instruction from the teachers, as well as the sense of community from the other regular students. No one judges, and you will see people of all shapes, ages and genders come here regularly to stay fit. The clean showers and attentive child care add to the appeal. These guys are successful because of the obvious care and pride in the studio and you will feel it as strongly as your sore flutes after taking their signature Dailey Barre classes!
