We stayed at the Clift for a tip during the American Urologic conference - our flight was delayed so we would have missed our connecting flight so the airline booked us for a fight the next day. We called the Sonesta and after a 30 min phone call where we had to give flight info etc they said we were able to cancel the night we would no longer be needing without cost. However, at checkout they said there was no record of this and charged us! They were very rude in the process. Additionally after a long day traveling, presenting at the conference and having a late celebratory dinner I come back to the Hotel and realize that I remember the room number but not the floor so instead of walking around the hotel potentially waking other guests i ask at the reception. Hovever, the one receptionist refuses rudely to tell me as the room was booked under my friends name. I ask if someone can walk up with me as I have my luggage with name tags up there and it would be easy to identify me as belonging to that room. Normally they would just confirm that you know checkout dates or perhaps the DOB of the person booking the hotel. This was not getting anywhere and the stupid receptionist forced me to go upstairs and try all rooms with my room number IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT on a trial and error basis which I had tried to avoid to prevent any disruptions to other guests! I could not believe it. When I complained in the AM all they said was we will talk to her to refresh her on our policy. I also was wearing a suit and am a 30 year old female so I don’t understand why they would be so oddly obstructive!

I'm done with the hotel after 5 stays in the last 3 years ... Hotel under new management and it doesn't bode well ...Terrible comedy of errors this time round. ... Every promise made was not kept (I'm still awaiting the email with my payment receipt, my tablet plus wine never showed up, the mini bar was never topped up, etc, etc). It gets really TIRING to have to FIGHT with a hotel to get the basics done. I was made to contort to the staff's idea of service (rather than the other way round) every steps of the way. Not doing it again. Final straw: receiving a 5 pages (!!!) customer satisfaction survey ... clearly designed to make upset customers lose the will to provide feedback and/or complain. So here here is mine, in long form and under 2 minutes

Great location. Interesting decor. Solid bar, but expect to spend a for chunk of change. The staff was kind and attentive. Clean rooms. The beds we're super comfortable. Really nice view from the 8th floor.

Older hotel with boutique feel. Rooms are very large and beds very comfortable, but could use some updates. Hotel is in a good location, close to many restaurants/shopping. I would stay here again.

Beautiful hotel, we stayed for a few nights before our wedding (even though we are San Francisco locals) and it was a beautiful experience. The staff were so nice and thoughtful, the suite was large and spacious, an extremely comfortable bed and a dink g area big enough it have the family around for a meals to celebrate together. The staff are very attentive and the hotel feels very secure. The Redwood Room was great to gather friends and have drinks, stylish and has a great vibe. Overall we can’t recommend this place enough!
