  Helpful local hardware store. They seem to have almost everything the big box store has, but much more friendly and no hassle.

  Your neighborhood hardware store is a great alternative to Home Depot and other giant chains that want to kill small businesses. My neighborhood hardware store would be this one. Snow shovels and appliances in the front, random hardware stuff in the back, different types of locks to choose from. The owners here can speak English, Mandarin and Cantonese, friendly and knowledgeable. I came here to make key duplicates (first time too!) I finally saw how the process worked. Pretty awesome! They take a blank key that can fit in the key hole and then starts cutting it so that it can turn. They start accepting credit cards at $15.

  The middle aged Chinese man is really nasty. I go to hardware stores to copy keys and get locks or lock accessories, since Home Depot is always sub par if you ever find what you want. This one is also walking distance, which is rare enough in queens. I've shopped there 3 times now, the first time i went to copy keys and they worked great. The second time they didn't have my car keys, so he immediately and defensively insults me and tells me to get a newer car. That's why he can't copy my keys. The third and final time, i'm asking him for help with changing the cylinder of my security door and he points to a wall of locks and tells me to find it. I ask for help and he gives me such an attitude. I told him "he is the expert so work with me. " then he just sneers like I'm wasting his time. AND NO ONE ELSE IS THERE! I finally get a price, and say I'll come back later. And he just stops talking to me, as if i bullshitting him. As stupid as he is, i would've given him the money with out blinking, if he was just a little bit nicer. This guy looks like the owner since the other employees kiss up to him, but i'm hoping the store closes down soon so we can get a real hardware store in the neighborhood. No one needs to deal with this crap attitude when there are enough struggling good businesses out there.
