  Andrzej Tadeusz Bonawentura Kościuszko (Andrew Thaddeus Bonaventure Kosciuszko) (1746 – 1817) was a Polish military leader, military engineer, and general in the American Revolutionary War, who became a national hero in Poland and the United States. He masterminded a key British defeat at Saratoga, planned and oversaw the building of military fortifications at West Point.
