  Smooch is in a great location so it’s unfortunate that the service is so terrible. The back of the menu warns customers about bad Yelp reviews, which I thought was a joke until I experienced it myself. Yesterday I had brunch at Smooch and was told there’d be a 45 minute wait. That was totally fine, because staff told us from the get-go. I’ve worked in the service industry and I completely understand when a coworker doesn’t show up to work, how it can slow service and damper your mood. The thing is, you still have to be apologetic and friendly when you forget orders or things are taking a while that’s the nature of this business. However, not only was the staff incredibly rude but the food isn’t worth the price. They cut the cucumbers straight from the covered plastic without washing it and the salmon open faced sandwich was so unbelievably tiny. I have never wrote a review before but I was shocked by the owner’s petty and inappropriate responses to other reviews and wanted warn others.

  Slow and very small portions. The owner should probably seek another line of work, he would rather be rude than provide service to customers.

  Really confusingly slow. Rude staff. Each dish is expensive and not so slyly the same ingredients in a different order. They spend more time making commentary on their menu than providing service or even food.

  Great atmosphere. Friendly, low-key chill staff who made our dinner feel very easy and comfortable. The kitchen shares its floor space with the bar, and the chef does wonders. The food was delicious. Highlight was a risotto with asparagus; rich but light fare, every meal was just enough. I’d definitely make it a regular haunt.

  Pretentious and rude. Went to the cafe based on lonely planet recommendation. Staff took a while to acknowledge we were standing waiting to order. Asked for a latte, iced tea and a muffin. Was told they didn't have the iced tea I wanted so i asked for different flavour. Took a seat outside and they said they would bring drinks out. Guy then told us they were out of iced tea completely apart from black tea.. and anyway "the menu is just a suggestion". I asked for an iced latte instead.. which wasn't great. The muffin was weird (again a second choice because first choice wasn't available) and the original latte we ordered never turned up. On the upside they were so hopelessly disorganised that they only charged us $4 for an iced latte and a muffin but seeing as they service was non-existent and both muffin and coffee were a bit gross maybe that wasn't such a good deal! Don't bother going. They have something on the back of the menu about people "yelping" (moaning) about their place. We thought it was a joke but after this experience we can see why they felt the need to put this on the menu!!
