  Small Steps is one of New Mexico's premier agencies for mental health services for children and families. I am a licensed social worker in ABQ that has interacted with Small Steps by attending their trainings, referring clients to them, and I have collaborated with them about families with both work with. In all my interactions with them, anyone I have ran into is professional and courteous. The owner is an amazing support to the field of child mental health in NM; not only in the services her agency provides but also in how she supports education and workforce development. Small Steps is one of the leaders in understanding and applying the cutting edge and effective interventions to support children with their mental health and development. Simply put; Small Steps is always my first recommended to anyone.

  I am a fellow early childhood therapist and have referred many families over the years to Small Steps Child Counseling. Their intake process is smooth and ethical, and they take care to include all involved parties especially in challenging circumstances.   We took one of our kids to Small Steps for quite a while, and we had a great experience! The front desk staff was always friendly and helpful, and there's a nice waiting area in the front. And our daughter's counselor was wonderful and worked with both my wife and I and our daughter to move forward through some things.

  My kids have seen different therapists at Small Steps over the years. They are always kind and listen to the children and the parents! We have one adopted child and Small Steps was there for us at the beginning when multiple kiddos in our household needed some extra care around that. Later on one kiddo needed another year of therapy. Or maybe mom and dad did! Our therapist helped US just as much as our child in learning how to see the situation from multiple perspectives and give us greater insight into what our child might be facing. So thankful for Small Steps!

  After my 3 grandchildren were removed from their parents custody and placed in my home, we were referred to Small Steps Child Counseling. Courtney has been amazing with all 3 of them. She would come out to our house once a week for a year and do fun activities with them. She would work with them as a group and also one at a time. They loved her visits. She played a big part in helping them adjust at home and in school. I would highly recommend them to anyone needing counseling for their child or children.
