  Great Safeway store to get all my grocery needs always freshly stocked. Make sure to use your Safeway card and Safeway app before going to check out if you want discounts and always check your receipt that you got your discounts

  I literally drive to this Safeway all the way from the Dog patch/ Bayview are of SF to be able to shop like a person should be able to. The only thing is there is always one person asking for something outside and I feel awful if I don't give them money or food. Other than that I love this local

  Westlake Safeway is a convenient location to get your groceries. The bakery offers a decent selection of baked beads, bagels, cakes and pastries. The meat and fish section is basic and the freshness of the produce is questionable. Note that certain products like alcoholic beverages, medicines, toiletry products etc are locked behind cases, so you need an employee to open this for you if you need an item. This can be inconvenient, though the system is in place to deter shoplifting. Safeway offers free membership so be sure to take advantage of this to get discounts.

  So this marks the 2nd time I've visited this location to utilize Safeway's check cashing service. The first time, I arrived at right around 6pm, was denied the service, and was given no explanation of why I was denied the service. After some light prying, I was told that their customer service department closed at 6pm and even if it didn't, they would not be able to perform the service, as their "check cashing system was down." Giving it another go today, at the same time, considering their Google listing maintains that this service is available until 7pm. I waited at the counter over 10 minutes, then was told, quite sternly, that their customer service department was yet again closed prior to the listed hours. I exited and called the store. Upon getting a manager (who shall remain unnamed) on the line, I was informed that the customer service department closes early anytime there is a staff shortage. The manager reassured me that, in those instances, someone would come from a register or another department to assist customers who required services. I reported that no one offered to help me, and that, if they didn't want their hours updated on Google, they should follow through with their procedures and keep their hours of operation current. I then stated that I'm coming back in to be served. Upon my arrival back to the desk, I was helped by a very hostile woman who didn't greet me at all, instead opting to glare at me while moving her hand in a "let's get on with it" gesture. More people joined the line as I was endorsing my checks, and these people were very rudely notified that the customer service department was closed. Two star encounter for 2 main reasons. The first is obviously the open hostility displayed by the associate to both myself and the other customers. No matter what your day has going wrong with it, in customer facing roles, the focus should always be on the customer experience. Period. Secondly, it's the inconsiderate practice of too many businesses to play fast and loose with their hours listed on a trusted site like Google. People rely on the accuracy of the information provided by Google, which is controlled by the establishments and corporate brands that parent them. When people use their precious resources, like record - breakingly expensive gas, to patronize these establishments only to learn upon arrival that the product or service is randomly unavailable, it creates a real problem for that consumer in an already tough financial climate. Area managers, district managers, and regional leaders should spearhead an effort to ensure compliance with corporate initiatives and adherence to listed hours of operation to avoid creating these inconveniences for their already cash-strapped customers.

  This Safeway is wonderful and will become my primary choice when I need a big run. The selection is excellent, the store clean, and the parking easy and plentiful. Worth the drive from downtown for sure!
