  The store itself isn't bad. The staff are not very nice. The freezer section stopped working. Instead of selling the items, or closing the store, they left it open and started threatening customers who wanted to buy items. Really. I was shocked. I seen two employees yelling at a woman for opening the door to get something out. It wasn't just one person.....I'm sure there are nice people that work there... I'm just saying, they must have ALL taken the day off when I was there. Needless to say, I haven't been back.

  The security personel are rude. The foul language, and a thug like attitude. When you walk in look to right and you will see three to four guard in a group all on there phones. As I was shopping one employee said to another. "I o-to kick his ass" as a customer was walking away from him. Now let's get to the deli department. Way under staff they never use the numbers for the next person then it becomes a yelling match between. 10 oz of solid salami to be sliced. I have to pay for it first. Then come back to the deli wait in line again to have them slice it. customers. When asking for assistance to find something the give you general area then vanish.

  Safeway on Market Street in the Castro provides an important service to the local community. They are one of the only low cost food options in the area, and they deal with a lot of difficult customers. Nevertheless, the staff is friendly and caring. They make amazing sandwiches, greet me by name when I shop, and they are very receptive of suggestions. They even carry a large selection of items for "food on the go." Here is an example of a large company that seems to actually care about their local community.

  This grocery store is what purports to be. Generally reasonably clean and well-stocked with the things you'd expect a large chain grocery store to have, but nothing special. If you wait till Sunday night to shop, good luck - the shelves get pretty bare in a post-apocalyptic way.

  This is the only Safeway I go to .The checkers are so nice.They almost all know my name there. I have been going there for years.The store has great prices and it is very clean. The pharmacy all of them know me and they are very nice and give great service .
