Oh dear.... I went with my 3 year old son for breakfast. We walked into an empty shell of a place with the echoes of guttural nasel clearances coming from a sniffy customer in the booth on my right. I should have turned and left immediately but Peggy Sue’s breakfast had come highly recommended by the friendly concierge at my hotel. There were no waiting staff, so I walked to the counter where I was met by a hard-faced recruit who appeared to be a sort of employee of the place - possibly payed to greet and take food orders - so I thought I’d try my luck! I’m a Brit (as you can probably tell by now) and I love being in the U.S (California, especially so) but the service, atmosphere, quality of food friendliness and professionalism that we’ve come to expect in a service industry I’d consider to be among the very best in the world, would leave you utterly unimpressed by spending a short time at Peggy Sues. I ordered ham and eggs for myself at $15.99 and a coffee. For my son I ordered bacon and eggs and an apple juice. A total that came to a little over $27. We waited at the table a while and after I reminded said stoney-faced recruit that I should like my cup of coffee that morning - our food arrived. My ham looked like a fried thick slice of the stuff that came in tins in the Second World War. My eggs were ok and my sourdough toast was what it was. My sons breakfast consisted of a small poached egg in a cup, one slice of buttered toast and one piece of very thin, very hard streaky bacon. I actually had to go back to her again just clarify that I had been charged the correct fee for this food. I could go on - but I won’t - but on the way out, I did briefly consider taking my few dollars back that I’d stuffed in the tip jar by the till, when I first place my order. No. Not great. I won’t be going back.

I used to go almost every time I'd attend an event downtown. I'll never go again. 20 MINUTES after I placed my order I was told it was not available and I had to go back to the register for a refund. The full amount was NOT refunded. I was told mayo was at the table - NOT the case. Back to the register again. Ordered fish and chips. The fries were ok, but the fish was terrible - dry and seemed exceptionally low quality. HORRIBLE service, poor quality food.

The food has really gone downhill. And, the prices are up. I ordered a burger, fries, and a soda for over $15. If it had been good, I would not have minded. But, the burger patty was very thin and the toppings were sparse. I won't go back again.

This place has gone downhill. Before it was more hip with lots of young people. Now no more crowd n lousy food.

Used to be great but has gone downhill recently. Prices are up, options are down; a lot of the menu is taped over. Coffee is no longer included with breakfast. Utensils and condiment bottles were sticky. The eggs I got were lackluster, and when my husband tried to put grape jelly on his toast, we found the consistency suspect. $11 for bacon and eggs and you get only two pieces of bacon that are mostly fat? Eat somewhere else.
