Tried to sneak in extra charges for me as well. MAKE SURE YOU READ THE PRICE BEFORE SIGNING AND INITIALING!! I caught it before and had to basically negotiate the price back down to the price I reserved the car for. 2 Stars, because the car was fine, and they did upgrade the car at no charge due to the others being gone. Returned the car today and wasn't charged anything extra.... yet....

One star, only because I can't figure out how to give zero stars. We reserved a car for a week for a soccer tournament in Phoenix. There were two of us, flying in at different times. Original pick up time was 8:00pm. When my friend found a ride from the airport, she called to switch the reservation into my name, deliberately asking if it would work, when the reserved pick up time was on Wednesday, and I would not be landing until 11:55 on Wednesday night. She was assured it would be fine. When I arrived at the pick up counter, at 12:20 am, I was told the reservation had expired at midnight. I repeatedly told the gentleman that we had specifically asked about this, and were told it was fine. No help, he just repeated that the resevation had expired. When I asked "what do I do now?" He simply said, "I can't do walk ups." First and last time I will ever try to use Payless. Luckily, Budget was right next door, where I easily rented a mini van for the price of a mid size car.

I traveled to Phoenix for a long weekend and some spring training baseball. I reserved a SUV a couple of days before I got there because of the drastically reduced price. One day before I left for Phoenix, I checked in on Payless as I had never heard of this rental company. I was immediately concerned having read through some awful reviews. Thinking ahead to my arrival of long lines, added taxes and fees without my consent, and no car for me despite having a reservation, I seriously considered cancelling all together and paying substantially more for a brand with better ratings. I didn't experience anything included in the bad reviews. I arrived at the rental car location at around 2pm on a Thursday to zero line and was immediately given the vehicle I had reserved. I was in and out on the road in about 5 minutes in a clean, fully fueled car. I have zero complaints about returning the vehicle either. Overall, a great experience.

0 starts would be more accurate ...waited for 1.35hrs in line, with reservations (1 employee checking customers in)finally our turn and she tells us she is closing and we will have to proceed to yet another line in Avis garage. This company knows how many reservations they have and when flights are arriving. A line of 20plus people waiting. You would think the would have more than 1 person working. Not happy! Will not be renting from Payless car rental or any parent company again.

Recent used Payless car rental, while waiting in line there was a few people upset. It seems the problem was with people renting the cars not the staff. The staff was great at handling the situations and getting people moving. We rented a car with GPS. The car wasn't available so we were given a SUV with GPS and a minor discount for the inconvenience and waiting. David was our sales person and Luis was stationed next to him. They both were very helpful in resolving our issue and getting our vehicle ASAP. Customers seem to lose their patience, it gets pretty busy. I recommend checking the vehicle and taking photos once you arrive at your car. Sometimes vehicles can be damaged... Overall, great experience!
