  Tallman Island is a fundamental component of the city's sewage master-plan. Its really a workhorse of the region. This plant cleans 80 million gallons of sewage and grey water per day. A tremendous density of population depends on this plant. Very familiar sight to boaters along the north coast (Long Island Sound). Located in historic College Point and hard by both the Yacht Club there (as well as Riker's Island) --the landward side is not that exciting. Its got a simple chain-link fence around it and is mainly demarcated by the well-known concrete 'Jersey barriers'. But they have made an attempt to keep a few existing maple trees in place and reduce the impact on this little stub of land which sticks out into the Upper East River. They kept the building heights low-profile; unlike the waste plant in my neighborhood which you can't ignore even if you want to. ****
