Food is great and so are the people who work there. Empanadas and eggs. It’s what’s for breakfast!

I absolutely love the Oakwood and it is my 18 year old son's favorite restaurant bar none! It is a local favorite owned by immigrants. The resturant specializes in Cuban and Argentenian fare. Everything is authentic and fresh. They even hand-make their own delicious hot sauce using fresh peppers, tomatoes and other ingredients. The hot sauce alone is reason enough to visit! Often, you ser politicians and other local celebrities dining here for lunch. This is a must visit resturant in the heart of downtown Raleigh.

I just went there for lunch and got their pork loin special with beans and rice and plantains, which is a very traditional Cuban meal. I was very disappointed because the food was so bland. I did not taste any cumin, garlic or anything. I have eaten there in past, and liked it so I was very surprised by the lack of flavor. I hope it was just an off day for them!

I first came across this place when I was working off of N Person St. Although the place is small and can get very busy, the food never takes too long. & speaking of the food...AMAZING. The plating and portions can be what you'd expect from a place that is trying to stay on top of the modern trends, but the taste and quality are never compromised. I mean who would make better Cuban and Argentinian food that a family who is Cuban and Argentinian, right? I recently tried their cappuccino and Cuban coffee, and they did not disappoint. You give their cappuccino a try and you may never want to step foot in a Starbucks again. I can't tell you what to try because I'd eat anything there, but whatever you do, just make sure you ask for their hot sauce. That homemade hot sauce is life changing. Last, I've never had issues with the service. The staff is always nice and quick. Oakwood Cafe proves that mom 'n pop type of places still got it going on.
