Awful. Avoid. There are plenty of other excellent National car rental places in San Fran. This one needs to be knocked down and closed. Too few and overworked staff in a cramped and non customer friendly location. National themselves are excellent to rent a car from but this centre...... A big disappointment.

Had a reservation for a sedan but ended up waiting for almost an hour, only to be told once we asked that there were only SUVs left. It was Labor Day weekend so they were especially busy, but this was still very poor customer service.

Dark underground cave-like location, but this is San Francisco! They gave me a minivan when I came to pick up my sedan. Turns out I was going to Seattle with 3 teens, so it worked out well: I got a $700 vehicle for $300-ish. And then my brother took it on a 5 hour drive after signing the contract at a National in Seattle, no hassles whatsoever. In and out.

Amazing, but true story. I rented a car at the Enterprise counter SFO the agent said to pick up the paperwork in the garage. I went into the garage and the nice lady at the counter said choose a car. So, I chose a nice Impala. At the exit gate I still didn't have any paperwork so they took my credit card number and I enjoyed the car for two days. Upon returning to Enterprise the check-in guys informed me that I had been driving a National car. So I drove to the 4th floor and returned the car to National without any hassle. Enterprise called to ask why I never took a car so I told them the story. It turns out that they own National anyway. Lesson of the story - don't bother at the rental counter, just go take one and pay at the garage gate!

I live in San Francisco where a car is not needed for local transportation. The people at National Car Rental on Bush Street have been extremely responsive to my needs for a car rental on a short term basis, sometimes emergent basis. They bend over backwards to take care of me. The Emerald Club is a great inovation and makes rental easy without standing in lines. I will be a life time customer.
