  Since this restaurant opened, we've been no less than a dozen times. Menu standouts are breakfast, especially the cinnamon roll and waffle, chicken fried steak, catfish, frito pie, beef tips, the salad trio, the cornbread, chicken fried steak. Steve the manager and Jack the owner are kind and accommodating. Veggie sides are down-home southern food and you can get a 4 veggie plate if you don't want protein. Prices are quite reasonable.

  Great food and atmosphere. The building I'd really cool also. The owner has 2 other restaurants... a burger place and a bbq joint and let me tell you.. he knows how to cook!! Yum yum!

  I picked up my friend from Love Field for an early breakfast and Mockingbird Diner came through in a big way. Their coffee was hot and fresh. Our kind waiter suggested the chicken fried steak and eggs; a great suggestion. The steak was fresh and had great breading/batter. Both our eggs were cooked perfectly; over easy and sunny side up. Note that they batter their chicken fried steak when ordered so it may take an extra minute, it's well worth the wait!

  Have had lunch there twice, and both times got very good meals. My first time there I had the salmon croquettes and they were amazing; deep-fried but not greasy or oily tasting at all. Best salmon croquettes I've ever had! My second time there I had the albacore tuna sandwich on their homemade croissant. Outstanding sandwich! If overly salted foods is a concern, then you'll love The Mockingbird. IMO, they under salt, meaning that a tad more salt would bring out the spices and seasonings they use. An observation and opinion, not a complaint. This is my new favorite place for lunch. Perhaps I'll try the beef tips over rice on my next visit.

  I enjoyed the beef tips over rice and the green bean casserole. The macaroni and cheese was fine, but a little Bland. If I'm going for comfort food, I would prefer that my macaroni and cheese have yellow cheese particularly when it's served on white plates in a rather Stark environment. The service was very good. Though I rarely do dessert out, the coconut cream pie was the best that I've had in decades. There seems to be a long wait at peak hours. The high-capacity booths are great for large groups but slow down the seating of parties comprised of one to 4 people when possibly more boost and or tables would allow for more parties to be seated at one time without wasting space. Parking during peak hours can also be a challenge. As an architect, I truly appreciate the structure and the interior space created. But the finish seems to lack any sort of aliveness or stimulation to the appetite. The restaurant appears to still be searching for its identity. I'll be glad when I feel that there is a better sense of direction and character. I look forward to there being open at dinner if the prices don't exceed those at lunch.
