I reserved a table for a birthday brunch on Saturday, and it was a complete disappointment. I was honestly embarrassed to have brought my friends here. The food was mediocre, and the service was terrible. Our waitress was an older blonde woman who was VERY rude and unpleasant to us. The worst part? The so called "alcoholic" drinks! Part of the appeal of booking here was the bottomless beverages option, but the drinks were all watered down to the point of just being juice. The mimosas and screw drivers just tasted like orange juice; after 8 or so I felt absolutely nothing (and I'm a light weight). I guess this is a great place to cure scurvy, but it's not a good brunch spot.

They have a great business model. It is steak only. The only choice you get is how it's cooked. The kitchen only has to master one entree. You get fries, good, hearty bread and a nice salad. The steaks are obviously a very inexpensive cut. But they are very tender and flavorful. Thinly sliced and, I believe, lightly marinated and served with a house sauce which is quite tasty and complements the meat well. And seconds on meat and potatoes are available for the asking even encouraged. They come around with platters laden with more steaks and baskets of fries. I'm not a big beef eater, but I look forward to a return visit. My only complaint was the high noise level. But you get that almost anywhere that's popular. When I want quiet, I stay home.

I went here with two friends last night (Tuesday) around 9 pm (1 hour left until closing) and the staff was so nice and accommodating. They were happy to see us and greeted us with a smile. It was warm so we sat outside which was quiet and perfectly lit with string lights. We sat down and were immediately helped by a very knowledgeable waiter despite there being a prefixed menu. He help us choose drinks that went well with the food and was right! The food was delicious, first course was a light salad and then the main course of steak and thin cut fries. I actually forgot about the second serving so I was pleasantly surprised. The food came out super fast so we were able to take our time without being rushed. We left feeling happy and full. I highly recommend this place! Hidden gem for sure!

I don't normally write reviews but I would be remiss if I didn't write one about my experience at Medium Rare in Barracks Row. I visited for the first time for brunch to celebrate my birthday! In short the team and management are very hospitable and accommodating! The ambiance is lively and exciting. For the brunch menu, $25 will get you bottomless drinks and a steak entree. I had the Steak Frites with bottomless mimosas! It was very delicious and well-cooked. These factors definitely sets this restaurant apart from other brunch spots in DC. To expand, I made my birthday reservations at the wrong location. Before I knew this was the issue, I showed my irritation (which was fueled by hunger and birthday pressure) when the hosts told me I didn't have a reservation and that I would be put on a wait list. The manager remained calm and assured me that things will get worked out. He even offered me a mimosa while I waited! I have experience in the industry and know that it is not easy to accommodate a party of 7 on a busy Saturday. But the staff made it happen as the manager promised! By the time my party arrived and was seated we only had 30 minutes left of brunch. The team showed their hospitality once again and continued to serve us bottomless mimosas past the time! Long story short, Medium Rare Barracks Row helped make my 23rd birthday special. I would highly recommend.
