Drinks are reasonably priced. Pleasantly varied crowd. Music at just the right volume to be really loud but not make conversation completely impossible (ha ha).

My personal opinion of loving this place. It's definitely it's unique own little kick back bar. They open at 12pm and go all the way till 2am. The staff has been the same for as long as I've been going. Which has been just about 2 years almost every day. The people that come in are great and if you end up getting intoxicated and getting the "drunchies" they have a taco stand and hot dog stand just right outside. (not part of Macs astablishment)

Max's Bar or should I say Matt's Bar is wonderful bar the drinks are really expensive for the amount you receive in your glass the bartender is outrageous a nice relaxed crowd. I suggest you stop him during happy hour.

Normally a great stop when enjoying Downtown SJ street life, but not when a particular, rotund, bartender is on watch, in which case his disdain for women and any possible issue he can use to shoo them off is in plain view like when my friends, with their service dogs (and all necessary documentation) were dismissed with a "you'll never win" declaration. What a fat tool! (Here's to the inevitable Type 2 diabetes diagnosis in your future Mr Hospitality 👍)

It's unfortunate, because we do like this place. Place is the key word. There is one bartender who is ALWAYS rude to us. I don't think he likes women coming in. Today I came in with my (real, certified) service dog, and he wouldn't even let me in the door. He claimed the city of San Jose won't allow him to have service dogs. I let him know that it's illegal to turn someone away for having a service dog and went on my way. The folks nextdoor at Labrinth are more than nice and immediately welcomed us in.
