I love that this place has a wide selection of Scottish Ales. Most places have one if that. Also, their scotch selection is the best I've seen

Update: Giving stars back because I love this place, but I'm still sad Ewan is gone. So, I love MacNiven's. Scottish Eggs and grilled cheese are amazing. Beer selection, awesome. Scotch selection and knowledge, spectacular. I have one (in my opinion) big issue: the restroom, or the lack of, decor. I prided MacNiven's as having the best restroom decor of any restaurant/bar in Indy. I used to enjoy my restroom breaks at MacNiven's because for years, I would get to see the beautiful face of the one and only Ewan McGregor. I would even refer others to MacNiven's primarily because of the nice restroom decor. These days, the restrooms have zero character. They took away the beautiful framed art and now have a plebeian display of gray walls; I thought the art would return, but it has been several months and nothing. To me, it's of two stars importance. I will reassess if Ewan returns.

First time here, not impressed at all... Took the server 10 mins just to seat us when the place had like 3 customers in it. Sat down and ordered.. I got the fish and chips and my fish was soggy... I needed a refill on my drink as the server sat in the front by the window on her phone. 20 mins later she comes.. Not impressed with this place at all and I had such high hopes...

Food tourist? Bring your passport here. Try the haggis. It's available as an appetizer, so you can make it a group dare. It's delicious, by the way. Fast, courteous service in a very casual atmosphere (think pub more than restaurant). Simple menu with traditional flavors that all deserve a try. Also within walking distance of the Murat/Old National Center, so a great choice for dinner before a show!

My girlfriend and I tried this place as an early Valentine's date. Really impressed with the number of vegetarian offerings on the menu, list of beers (local and imported), and healthy portions. The fish and chips were delicious and the veggie chili was a nice change of pace. We will definitely be back in the near future.
