  The work is undeniably good. Maybe even the best in Harlem. Unfortunately, it stops there. For starters, if you don't want to be forced into a dark smelly dungeon to use the restroom, don't eat or drink prior to going to Macenta's Hair Braiding. If you do, there will be spiders, no tissue, and a horrible ammonia smell there to greet you. If your braider is kind, she'll offer you a dirty roll of tissue that's likely had roaches crawling over it. Next up! The braiders will yell at each other the entire duration of your visit. I get cultural differences, but this is not okay when you're putting a thousand little tight braids in my hair for 5+ hours. I normally ask them to lower their voices. This works for about 10 good minutes. I then ask them to take out the braids so that I can go somewhere else. They figure it out and stop yelling. Lastly, bring your rat tail comb and pomade gel if you're not into JAM gel and dirty combs. Bring paper towels to wipe off the cracked wet seat that's almost guaranteed to have grease somewhere on it. Bring a hand towel too. Your hair will be dipped in hot water and dried with a towel pulled from under their food, clothes, roaches and whatever else you can imagine. I no longer get my hair braided at Macenta's.

  Worst experience ever. Four days later and this is the result: a bald spot. I asked for jumbo braids but they were using tiny sections of my hair to add huge amounts of extensions to. Nothing like the pic I showed before they started.

  She let me name the price on my dreads and did a good job too 👏🏾 It wouldn’t hurt to tidy up the place though but I’m not tripping; definitely going back.

  Been going to them over 7yrs they good at doing any style u want. And very friendly

  I’ve been going here for the past year, mama does a great job on my braids. I usually get styles such as the photo I’ve added (picture is not me). Mama does them well. She has a bit of a problem with over booking people, she’ll have you waiting until she is done with whatever style she is doing. When you’re firm about your time and firm about the price you’re willing to pay for said service (within reason) you will walk out satisfied. If you’re not braid to price ratio savvy, I suggest you look up how much said style costs normally and stick to it. Will continue servicing them!
